We are in the heart of Tuscany between Volterra and San Gimignano, 1 hour to Florence, Siena and Pisa, close to the Natural Reserve “Monte Nero” (Black Mountain) where the water carved the “black rock”, creating along its path suggestive shapes and waterfalls, among green trees and rare Mediterranean vegetation and animals.
Il Palagetto was a roman post station of Caio Curzio – (who was a councillor to Julius Ceasar) who gives the name to the village Cozzano where travellers could rest along their way through the lonely ancient towns
Thanks to the sympathetic renovation in keeping of the style and the original materials, with stone Ceilings in cotto tiles and solid chestnut beams. The two country houses have 3 star rating, these charming hotels cater for the comforts of the contemporary traveller.
THE ROOMS
The hotel has 23 bedrooms, catering for four, three or two with double-beds and single rooms. The large bedrooms finely furnished in Tuscan style, have air-conditioning, mini-bar, satellite tv, hair dryers, some with whirlpool system, independent entrance and terrace.
Particular attention has been paid to the layout of the spacious bathrooms, with hand made decoration. 6 rooms contain air pool shower boxes and 3 rooms have hydro-massage bathtubs.
Two rooms are fully equipped for disabled people with access via the ground level.
The lounge, bar, tv/ area and restaurant “Il Cherubino” are situated in the heart of the main building.
THE RESTAURANT
We offer our guests traditional Tuscan cooking, among the specialities you can taste classic Tuscan antipasti: bruschetta, crostini, affettati tipici, lardo di Colonnata, pappardelle al cinghiale or lepre (wild rabbit), ribollita, a hearty stew of vegetables, beans and chunks of bread and zuppa di farro, thick with spelt (a barley-like grain), cinghiale con olive (wild boar), arista, roast pork loin stuffed with rosemary and garlic, bistecca “alla fiorentina” (rare char-grilled steak), grigliate miste, tasty local sheep’s milk pecorini and homemade cookies” accompanied by excellent Chianti and Vernaccia di S. Gimignano.
CONGRESS - ROOM
The wide meeting room of the hotel of nearly 200 square-meters can host 60 or more people for conferences, incentives, and private parties. It is equipped with air conditioning, natural light and personalized enlightening, big screen, satellite TV, living room for coffee break.
We see the unforgettable profile of the Balze from the two wide arch windows.
We can organize activities concerning the local atmosphere: wine and oil tasting, cooking courses, visits to the wine producer farmhouses, to the olive press of the organic extra, and guided in the surrounding nature.
